Program Details →Movie Matinee
Second Saturday of every month
Beginning in 2026, the Friends Group hosts a free Movie Matinee on the second Saturday of every month. Visitors are invited to enjoy a family-friendly film inside the Visitor Center. Admission and popcorn are free (drinks are not provided). This monthly program offers a relaxed way for families and community members to spend time at the refuge and enjoy a welcoming indoor activity.
Annual Events
Four signature events anchor our year — each one a chance to gather, learn, and celebrate the rhythms of the refuge.
Spring Festival
Each May, the Friends Group hosts a community Spring Festival that celebrates the season and highlights the importance of wildlife and habitat conservation. While the event includes activities related to World Migratory Bird Day and Endangered Species Day, it is not limited to that theme. Families and visitors enjoy educational stations, nature activities, and opportunities to explore the refuge during one of its most vibrant times of year.
Event Details →Hummingbird Banding Event
A favorite among visitors, this annual event offers a rare chance to see hummingbirds up close. Birds are safely captured, banded, and released by Southeastern Avian Research (SEAR), led by Federally Licensed Master Bander Cyndi Routledge. Guests learn about hummingbird migration, research techniques, and conservation while witnessing these remarkable birds in hand.
Event Details →Find Your Wild
Held each fall, Find Your Wild celebrates National Wildlife Refuge Week and invites the community to discover the refuge through outdoor activities, educational opportunities, and family-friendly experiences. Formerly known as Walk for the Wild, this event continues the tradition of encouraging people to connect with nature and explore public lands.
Event Details →Tree Trimming Event
Each year on the day after Thanksgiving, the Friends Group hosts a festive tree-trimming gathering at the refuge — a natural way to celebrate the holidays with Christmas crafts, community, and time outdoors. Visitors help decorate the tree, create simple nature-inspired ornaments, and enjoy the start of the holiday season in a setting that reflects the beauty and spirit of the refuge.
Event Details →Friends Group Support
All events and programs at Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge are supported and funded by the Friends Group, ensuring these opportunities remain free and accessible to the community.
